Norwegian salmon export figures over the past four weeks show that exports were 3.7 percent lower than in the same period last year.
In the past few weeks, IntraFish has heard several rumors about salmon producers reportedly slaughtering frantically to avoid surpassing their legal biomass limit. This is a reason for the price drop, one explanation said.
However, the export figures tell a different story. These show that volumes are down by 2,700 metric tons from last year.
Last Thursday, IntraFish spoke with salmon expert and professor Franck Asche, who could not give a plausible reason for the drop in salmon prices.
