This is one of the comments made by the Norwegian Food Safety Authority (NFSA) after it investigated four Norwegian salmon slaughter plants that have been barred from the Russian market.
In June, two slaughterhouses were excluded from exporting to Russia after Russian authorities found excessive levels of undesirable bacteria. Two more plants were then excluded in August after a Russian inspector slammed their sanitary record.
Following the Russian findings, the NFSA has carried out inspections at all four plants. The breaches it found vary widely in degrees of gravity.
