Salmon prices are now so high that they can no longer be used as "bait" to lure customers into stores in Europe, according to Paul T. Aandahl, analyst at the Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC).

“That won’t last much longer because salmon has become too expensive,” Aandahl he told IntraFish sister publication FiskeribladetFiskaren.

Zero growth in the global supply of salmon -- and subsequently sky-high salmon prices -- will characterize 2016.

Prices of more than NOK 60 (€6.30/$6.80) per kilo were recorded for Norwegian salmon during the holiday season last year.
