The leading commodity index rose 20 percent on a global basis in 2010, according to the newspaper Dagens Naeringsliv (DN).

This means that on average the rise in salmon prices is on a par with the average for increased commodity prices.

“It’s good that salmon prices correlate with this price trend,” Fish Pool broker Piotr Wingaard told IntraFish.

The Fish Pool Index reveals that the average price for 2009 was NOK 30.27 (€3.6/$5.2). This year the average is around NOK 37.50 (€4.5/$6.4), which makes for a rise of more than 20 percent, exactly like the commodity index.
