The managing director of Salmon Group, a nationwide network of 26 small- and medium-sized farmers and hatcheries, stressed the need for sustainable feed and hit out at Iceland’s approach to its mackerel fishery.
“I do not know if we are back in the pirate-time, but the Icelandic mackerel fishery is unregulated. We will not have meal from the type of catch," Managing Director Leif Rune Pedersen told IntraFish.
Skretting is the main supplier of fish feed to Salmon Group.
“Skretting now guarantees they only sell us meal based on raw material from quota covered fisheries with sustainable populations.
