SalMar is considering using equipment to flush away salmon lice as the main strategy in the fight against salmon lice in 2011.
The machine will be employed in combination with wrasse cleaner fish. The aim is to avoid de-lousing with chemicals.
The company has cooperated with Flatsetsund Engineering on developing equipment, and now has a three-tonne machine that flushes lice off the fish. The price tag for this machine that is moved around by a crane is around NOK 3 million (€360,000/$510,000).
