SalMar CEO Leif Inge Nordhammer is disappointed by the news the county governor is considering reporting the company to the police for an alleged breach of Norway's Pollution Act.

Norwegian newspaper Adresseavisen reported that Sor-Trondelag County’s environmental Director Stein-Arne Andreassen is considering reporting the company.

SalMar has used “the carcinogenic substance” formalin without authorization at Singsholmen, Hitra, and Solvaeret and Fjordprakken at Smola.

The environmental director for More & Romsdal County, Linda Aaram, is also of the opinion that formalin applied against salmon lice is a violation of the act.
