The two Norwegian salmon producers SalMar and Leroy are reportedly trying to take over Cermaq, going into direct confrontation with giant Marine Harvest, said newspaper Adressavisen on Wednesday.
“Key politicians and industry heads are vigorously working behind the scenes in the hope of bringing together the ‘powers-that-be’ in the Norwegian salmon industry at Froya Municipality,” Adressavisen wrote.
It called the fight over Cermaq ”the salmon industry’s greatest ever battle for power.”
"At this very moment there is a frantic, high-pressure effort underway to put together a wholly Norwegian alternative," it reported.
"The main ingredient in this solution is understood to be SalMar, possibly in combination with Leroy in Bergen," it wrote.
