Russia’s total seafood harvest amounted to 4.33 million metric tons in 2015, a 5 percent increase year on year, according to statistics data from Russia’s fishery agency Rosrybolovstvo.
So which species constitute the backbone of Russia's seafood industry?
At a harvest level of 1.62 million metric tons in 2014, pollock represents nearly 38 percent of the country’s total harvest of marine living resources.
Cod came in second place in Russia’s key species list in terms of catch volumes.
The overall cod harvest amounted to 451,900 metric tons in 2015, equating to 10.4 percent of the country’s overall harvest of marine living resources.
