Russia’s red king crab harvest jumped 35 percent in the period through Nov. 23, 2015, compared with last year, new data by Russia's fishery agency Rosrybolovstvo revealed.

Landings amounted to 5,580 metric tons, which is 79 percent of the total allowable catch (TAC) in the West Kamchatka and Kamchatka-Kuril subzones.

The West Kamchatka subzone provided the biggest share of catches. There, landings skyrocketed 45.2 percent to 3,780 metric tons, reaching 74 percent of the allowed quota.

Currently, there are four processors involved in king crab fishing, all of which are operating in the West Kamchatka subzone.
