Russian scientists seek sharp increase in blue king crab quota for 2015

Russian Far East fisheries institution TINRO Center expects the total allowable catch (TAC) for blue king crab to jump up in 2015 from its 5,495 metric tons limit in 2014.

This is on back of data of large-scale surveys conducted in Russia’s exclusive economic zone and in West Bering Sea zone last autumn which show significant increase in the species stock.

Snow crab will still be a basis for the Russian Far East crab catching, with a recommended TAC of 34,700 metric tons against 34,954 metric tons in 2014, according to the TINRO Center report.
