Russia’s Pacific Fisheries Research Center (TINRO) is recommending a shrortened 2016 pollock "A" season in the Sea of Okhotsk.
"There are more fish in the North Okhotsk subzone this year than usual and fishing of the pollock quota is well ahead of last year’s pace. Therefore, the 'A' season for pollock should be completed by Apr.1, 10 days ahead of schedule," said Kseniya Timakova, spokesperson for Russia’s federal fishery department, Rosrybolovstvo, citing the scientists' proposal to IntraFish.
According to TINRO, Russia’s overall total allowable catch (TAC) for pollock must be mastered at 70 percent in the winter-spring season and the rest 30 percent should be left for the fall season.
