Russia's pollock 'A' season is off to a strong start this year, with fishermen harvesting 93,200 metric tons through Jan. 19, according to information provided by the country's fishery agency Rosrybolovstvo.

The amount is up 29 percent compared to levels seen in the first few weeks of the 'A' season last year.

Catches of Pacific herring also jumped, by 29.8 percent, to reach 34,000 metric tons as of Jan. 19.

Currently, there are 77 vessels fishing for pollock and 22 vessels fishing herring in the Sea of Okhotsk.
