Russia's fishery agency Rosrybolovstvo is calling on the country's fishermen to help offset the impact of the ban on seafood imports by bypassing Icelandic ports and deliver their catches either through the Faroe Islands, or land them directly in Russia.

According to Ilya Shestakov, head of Rosrybolovstvo, the country's fishermen in the northeast Atlantic are ready to take on this task.

"We met with our fishermen and asked them to increase supplies of catches from the north Atlantic to the domestic market, using Faroese ports instead of Icelandic ones, after it was being put on the food sanction list, or shipping catches directly to the Russian ports," he announced at the East Economic Forum, held last week in Vladivostok.
