Russia’s plans to become self-sufficient in all food products, including seafood, will have huge ramifications on the processing sector, according to Gorjan Nikolik, seafood analyst at Rabobank.
Like in other sectors in the past, sugar and poultry in particular, Russia is now repositioning itself in the seafood industry increasingly as a domestic supplier.
“As we have seen in other sectors, capital, natural resources and a protected domestic market are the proven recipe...but it is not so easy in seafood,” said Nikolik.
