Russian pollock roe prices reached $5.57 (€4.90) per kilogram on average at auction in Busan, South Korea last month, up by 72 percent from $3.23 (€2.90) percent in February.
The jump in prices is the result of several factors, Andrei Ovchinnikov, general director at Russia’s Far East fishing company Roliz, a unit of Karat Fishery Holding, told IntraFish.
“Better roe quality auctioned in March as compared with the beginning of the year, lower production in the US and the federal government decision to close the pollock fishery in North Okhotsk Sea by April 1, 10 days earlier than usual, played the key roles in price hike of the Russian pollock roe," Ovchinnikov said.
