Russia's fishery agency Rosrybolovstvo announced its preliminary estimates of the 2017 total allowable catches (TACs) for its main fishing species, including crab, pollock, cod and herring.

The agency recommended a 6.7 percent increase in the overall TAC compared to this year, exceeding 3.1 million metric tons -- based on the recommendations by the country's fishery research institutes.

Russia's Far East could see its quota increased by 6.8 percent to nearly 2.7 million metric tons.

“The rise is mainly provided with higher pollock, cod, herring and navaga quotas," Kseniya Timakova, spokesperson for Rosrybolovstvo, told IntraFish.
