Russian Far Eastern fishermen have proposed abolishing the system of quotas for the Bering Sea pollock fishery and introduce the so-called Olympic system, by which any company is allowed to fish the resource within the established Total Allowable Catch (TAC).

The proposal aims to increase the use of the TAC and reduce the practice of quota sales to third-party companies, including Korean ones.

Russian pollock in the Bering Sea has become the object of massive sales, while the use of the TAC for the species is constantly decreasing.
