The Russian government placed an embargo on fish shipments being transported from Norway to Asia through Russian territory, said cargo company Schenker.

The embargo is thought to be affecting all salmon exports from Norway to Asia through Russia, although the full extent of it and the causes behind the order are still unknown.

A letter sent to Norwegian cargo companies by Russian airline AirBridgeCargo, which accounts for most of the fish transport between Oslo and Moscow, said the embargo was applicable with immediate effect on July 30.
