Royal Greenland's planned acquisition of Canadian fishing and processing company Quin-Sea Fisheries is a "first good step of consolidation" for the North Atlantic coldwater shrimp industry, CEO Mikael Thinghuus told IntraFish.
For the Greenlandic company itself it will mean entering a fairly new market, he said.
"We're currently very strong in Europe and in Asia but we don't have a strong position in the North American market," he said.
The deal will help the company to spread the risk in the "volatile" fishing business, which is also impacted by politics and currency fluctuations, he said.
