Since last year, imports of pangasius into the United Kingdom have been bucking the trend in Europe and growing steadily as the fish becomes increasingly a cheap alternative to traditional species such as cod and haddock.

Recent statistics from the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) showed in 2013, the United Kingdom upped its pangasius imports 13.2 percent to $41 million (€30.5 million).

Other main EU markets such as Germany, however, saw imports fall 21.3 percent between 2012 and 2013 to $45.2
