Alaska’s Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands pollock quota is on track to be slightly lower than last year, based on the preliminary recommendation the North Pacific Fishery Management Council (NPFMC) plan team gave Wednesday.
The council is recommending a quota of 1.22 million metric tons, just under last year’s catch quota of 1.267 million metric tons, council plan team member Jim Ianelli told IntraFish on Wednesday.
An annual pollock stock survey and scientific analysis both indicate the need for a slight quota reduction in 2012, Ianelli said.
