Red Chamber Group has reached a deal to acquire the assets of bankrupt frozen shrimp and foods group Contessa Premium Foods, Matthew Sorensen, a with Development Specialists Inc., the company assigned to handle the sale of the group's assets, told IntraFish.
Red Chamber was reportedly in the process of Contessa just days after the company ceased operations and fired all of its 54 employees at its Pittsburgh headquarters and Commerce, California, production plant earlier this month.
Contessa reportedly has more than $30 million (€22 million) worth of inventory in cold storage facilities, the majority of which is in California, and the company allegedly owes millions to seafood and shrimp packers in Thailand and Southeast Asia, sources said.
