The company made the announcement at its result presentation in Lovund, just south of the arctic circles in central Norway.
The first wrasse should be sold in 2012, it said.
The company said it did not know how much fish it will produce, although it will be fewer than 3,000 fish, said the company’s chairman Charles Ostlund. 3,000 is the number of wrasse that Marine Harvest plans to produce this year.
In ten years’ time, however, the company hopes to produce 1 million wrasse, “enough [to] cover the requirements of our owners,” Ostlund said.
