Dutch shrimp supplier Primstar is investing in a new black tiger shrimp farming venture in Nigeria, which is looking at producing 1,400 metric tons every year.

The first harvest is targeted for early 2016, Richard Oerlemans, CEO of Dutch Primstar BV and Nigerian affiliate Atlantic Shrimpers, told IntraFish.

Primstar sales are currently split between product coming from its wild shrimp trawling activities, which makes up 65 percent of the business -- and from shrimp farming, which makes up the other 35 percent, mainly through its stake in Agromarina, a 358-hectare Ecuadorian shrimp farm.
