The US Alaska pollock B-season may just be getting underway, but trends in production are already developing.

According to figures seen by IntraFish, production of surimi blocks is up 30 percent compared to the B-season of 2011, to 11,700 metric tons.

Production of deepskin fillets is up 34 percent to 4,300 metric tons.

Meanwhile, production of pin-bone out (PBO) blocks, much of which goes into the European processing sector, is down 34 percent to 6,800 metric tons.

This data only reflects the first 13 days of production, but is worth noticing, said a source in the US pollock business.
