A $500,000 (€365,430) grant the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) awarded to U.S.-based AquaBounty is being called into question at the same time the FDA considers whether to approve AquaBounty’s genetically modified (GM) salmon for commercial production. Approval would mark the first time in the world that a GM animal has been approved for human consumption.

An article written by a U.S. correspondent for U.K.'s The Gaurdian rattled the company on Tuesday. The headline read "Obama administration 'bailed out' GM salmon firm," voicing concerns raised by campaigners.
