Animal-rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is hoping to convince travelers flying into Maine's biggest city to shun lobster, the state's iconic seafood.

The group has purchased a month’s worth of ads in Portland's airport featuring a lobster holding a sign proclaiming, “I’m ME, Not Meat," according to a report in the Portland Press Herald newspaper.

It further encourages visitors to "go vegan."

Some of the ads, which will run throughout August, are located near Linda Bean’s Maine Lobster Cafe, which sells live lobsters for passengers to take on their flights as carry-on luggage.
