“We are very excited about the new ownership,” Lopez, who has led Pesquera Ancora since 2005, told IntraFish.
On Dec. 17, Aker Seafoods announced that Pesquera Ancora would be sold to UK Fisheries, a joint venture of Iceland’s Samherji and Dutch pelagic group P&P.
Lopez could not say how the sale would affect Pesquera Ancora’s strategy at this stage. However, he argued, the move reflects a way forward for European fishing groups if they want more leverage in obtaining quotas.
