The Peruvian anchovy quota reduction, announced at the end of October, has already sent prices for fish feed soaring.
“The price prior to the announcement of the (Peruvian anchovy fishery) quota was $1,600 (€1,237) for super prime fishmeal, FOB Peru,” Neils Alsted, vice president of the feed supplier Biomar, told IntraFish. “That immediately increased to $2,100 (€1,623).”
The $500 (€386) jump applies in general to all fishmeal grades, he said.
“And the oil went from $1,900 (€1,469) to $2,500 (€1,932) or $2,600 (€2,010),” Alsted said.
