Industrial Pesquera Santa Monica, a Peru-based hake supplier, started the year with dismal news -– the hake quota was set at just over 8,000 metric tons, down from 40,000 the year before.
“The quantity was too small to start operations in a positive way,” I.P. Santa Monica CEO Stephan Palinginis told IntraFish.
Instead Palinginis shut down operations for the first half of the year, which meant no work for its 800 employees and no products for its hake customers, most of which are rooted in Germany's fish finger industry.
