Peru's National Society of Fisheries (SNP) expressed dissatisfaction with the Ministry of Production's (Produce) decision to increase taxes from 0.25 to 0.45 percent on the shipping value per metric ton of anchovy.

Earlier in the week, the ministry said the new rate of fishing rights for anchovy will result in PEN 90 million (€24.4 million/$27.3 million) per year.

The SNP claims the increase comes at a time of heavy leveraging in the industry and decreased profits.

Cayetana Aljovin, president of the SNP, called on the ministry to review the regulatory burdens to reduce repercussions on fishing companies as a result.
