An estimate from the Norwegian School of Veterinary Science has each PD outbreak costing individual aquaculture companies around NOK 10 million (€1.3 million/$1.5 million).

“You can take that as a conservative estimate,” Veterinarian Paul Negaard told IntraFish.

Until May 1 this year, he was the coordinator for the three-year PD project in western Norway. The project is due to conclude in the spring of 2011. His successor, Camilla Myr, is already in place. She will be assessing measures initiated so far in the project.
