Elsewhere in the country there are small, isolated outbreaks, totaling 60 this year so far.
On average, each outbreak costs a producer around NOK 14 million (€1.6 million/$2.5 million), said Paul Negaard, head of the producers’ combat campaign, the so-called PD Project.
The industry bases its damage estimate on the doctorate of research scientist Arnfinn Aunsmo of the Norwegian College of Veterinary Science, who has quantified health-related losses in fish farming.
