In a site previously occupied by the US Navy, Palom Aquaculture plans tostart growing and harvesting Atlantic salmon on land using seawater pumped fromnearby Prospect Harbor in Maine.

Bryan Woods, vice president of operations at Palom Aquaculture, told IntraFishplans are underway to build a 500 metric ton farm, which will have thecapabilities to grow up to 1,500 metric tons annually with smolt provided bynearby distributors.

Once harvested, the fish will be sold to restaurants and retailers in andaround Boston and New York to meet the needs of the niche market, he said.
