Pacific Seafood-owned subsidiaries Pacific Choice Seafood Company, Sea Princess and Pacific Fishing are suing US Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker and the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), challenging what the companies call "an unlawful federal fisheries management program that threatens the ongoing viability of important West Coast fisheries," according to legal documents.
"The West Coast groundfish program is not working," Pacific Seafood General Counsel Daniel Occhipinti told IntraFish.
"Harvests are down, costs are up, and choke species are making it harder to fish every day.
