Prices on many fish products have declined in recent months as buyers have become more cautious, Pacific Andes International Holdings said in its half year report.

The company said prices of certain fish species, mainly ocean wild caught species of limited supply, had been trending up in the six months from October to March 2012.

This was thanks to strong and rising global demand for frozen wild caught fish, especially “lower-price staple food species,” the Hong Kong-listed company said.

On the other hand, the uncertain economic climate has had an adverse effect on many other fish products, with the result that buyers “in large importing markets” have become more conservative and less willing to commit to long term contracts, Pacific Andes said.
