The group behind the whitefish trading giant Ocean Trawlers is opening a new processing plant in Murmansk, Russia, as part of its plan to increase the value it can create from its quota, Kristjan Hjaltason, VP of sales and marketing at Ocean Trawlers Europe, told IntraFish.
The plant will produce fresh and frozen cod and haddock portions for the domestic Russian market as well as for export, Hjaltason said.
“Our own trawlers will land the cod fresh, where Polar Sea+, part of the Karat Group, will portion and then freeze it,” he said.
