Salmon from Scotland and New Zealand has a higher profile than Norwegian salmon in Singapore -- and fetches better prices -- Singapore-based seafood trader Frank Arne Naesheim told IntraFish.
Naesheim is Norwegian salmon’s "grand old man" in Singapore, where he operates Snorre Foods, importing, processing, distributing and exporting seafood.
"It’s a bit of a shame. We should manage to produce a more exclusive brand. It doesn’t have to amount to more than 1-2 percent of our total production," he said.
Naesheim is thinking along the lines of a fish that, for instance, is only fed a pure marine diet or where density in the cages is low.
