According to sources familiar with the situation, Russian authorities claim shipments from Norway had excessively high levels of coliform bacteria salmonella and staphylococcus aureus. Norwegian authorities have not been presented with the findings yet, nor have Russian authorities provided any samples taken from the fish.

Sources told IntraFish a letter will be sent to the Norwegian embassy in Russia early next week that will provide further details to Norway’s food safety authorities, which in turn would notify the industry.

If the closure is approved, sources said, it would take effect Oct.
