That’s according to figures IntraFish received from Agnar Moe, technical director at the Norwegian Seafood Federation (FHL), who based his estimate partly on import statistics from the government statistics agency, Statistics Norway.
Use of fishmeal for aquaculture has increased 130,000 metric tons in six years.
Of the total consumption last year, around 153,000 metric tons came from Norwegian fishmeal factories, while 242,000 metric tons was imported.
IntraFish ranked the countries from which Norway imports:
- Denmark: 72,035 metric tons
- Iceland: 69,471 metric tons
- Peru: 56,718 metric tons
- Chile: 26,931 metric tons
- Germany: 13,729 metric tons
- Uruguay: 2,255 metric tons
- Faroe Islands: 864 metric tons
- France: 291 metric tons
- Holland: 24 metric tons
The figures are rounded off to the nearest metric ton.
