Norwegian opposition party all in favor of new salmon giant

“Marine Harvest has more to offer Cermaq than the Norwegian State,”said Harald Nesvik, Progressive Party (FrP) spokesman for trade and industry in the Norwegian Parliament.

“We now have a state-owned company that is competing with private companies," he told IntraFish. "But the government holding in Cermaq is due to business-related considerations, plus a wish to keep the head office function in Norway. Cermaq is now the only salmon groups with its head office in Oslo City."

He reminded FrP has said for a very long time it has a positive holding toward an industry player making an eventual bid for the Norwegian state’s 43 percent stake in Cermaq.
