Having been handed a chunky investment of $2.75 million (€2.5 million) from new shareholders Aqua-Spark at the end of last year, Norwegian halibut farmer Sogn Aqua is wasting no time in scaling up operations.
The company, which is currently producing around 50 metric tons of halibut per year, is now planning to grow this to 800 metric tons by expanding its site in Sognefjord, Norway.
What sets Sogn Aqua apart is its mission: 100-percent sustainable land-based halibut farming.
"We are a small company producing 50 metric tons a year, but we have the technology for producing halibut on land,” Jan Brekke, CEO of Sogn Aqua, told IntraFish.
