Western Norwegian company Niri has obtained a site for land-based fish farming in Scotland, and now only lacks one thing – a production license.

Meanwhile another project, which was due to start construction in March, is postponed indefinitely.

Since 2006, Niri has been engaged in developing land-based salmon production, but until now has only had test production. The company together with local partners has now inked a 20-year leasing agreement for a disused airfield west of Glasgow, Scotland. Sited on the property is a hangar (5,000 square meters surface area), where they plan to start up salmon farming.
