Brazil is traditionally the second largest market for Norwegian clipfish suppliers -- following the European Union -- and usually imports salted cod worth NOK 1 billion (€123.1 million/$166.5 million). But in the first nine months of this year the sales value has nose dived close to 20 percent.
The drop is mostly due to the hefty fall in raw material prices this year. In terms of volume, the reduction was a modest 3 percent, but that’s poor consolation in a growing market.
