That’s according to Jon Arne Grottum, technical director for statistics and market at the Norwegian Seafood Federation (FHL).
During the last two years the average rate of growth has been seven percent.
“There was hardly any growth from 2007 to 2008,” Grottum told IntraFish.
Last year, around 750,000 metric tons (WFE) Atlantic salmon were harvested.
FHL’s estimate for production growth in 2009 is 14 percent. This means that by the end of this year fish producers will have slaughtered 865,000 metric tons.
This year 65 new salmon production licenses have been allocated.
