Between 2014 and 2015, Norwegian salmon exporters paid NOK 96 million ($11.2 million/€10 million) more in customs duty to the EU than for the previous year.
In 2014, salmon sales from Norway to the EU was worth NOK 30.6 billion (€3.2 billion/$3.6 billion). Since the EU levies a 2 percent customs duty on Norwegian salmon, the sales resulted in a net duty payment of NOK 611 million (€63.9 million/$71 million), according to Bjorn-Erik Stabell, who heads the sector for salmon and trout at the Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC).
