In an IntraFish interview in 1998 Atle Guttormsen predicted Norwegian salmon production would be around 1 million metric tons in 2010. He was spot on.
At that time, Guttormsen was fresh out of university, a doctorate scholarship holder. Now he is a professor at the college of business studies at the University of Life Sciences (UMB).
Last week, he was a keynote speaker at the fish health firm Europharma’s annual Lofot seminar. The theme was which factors influence salmon prices.
The professor was unable to give an exact answer, but covered many known variables.
