On Monday, the directorate updated its dietary guidelines. It recommends Norway’s population to double its intake of fatty fish. Each week everyone should eat 200 grams of fatty fish. Currently the weekly average is 100 grams to150 grams of fatty fish. Consumption of fish in total should be 300 grams to 450 grams per week.

The current weekly average is 400 grams of fish and other seafood of which fish accounts for 250 grams to 300 grams weekly. It states also that there is convincing evidence or that it is likely that eating fish lessens the risk of dying or suffering from cardiac disease, or developing prostate cancer.

The
