“It is also possible to improve usage of ingredients that are already on the market,” Arne Benjaminsen, director general of the Norwegian Ministry of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs, told IntraFish.

Last week, he took part in a round table conference in Japan with Japanese government authorities and researchers on marine biotechnology and bio-prospecting.

The conference was opened by Cabinet Secretary Vidar Ulriksen. Also present was professor Trond Jorgensen from the Norwegian College of Fishery Science in Tromso.

“Research in this area could lead to exploitation of genetic marine resources nut just for feed, but mainly for food and medicine,” Benjaminsen said.
